Adewole Adeyemi: Reviving African Identity Through Symbolism and Contemporary Painting by Miabo Enyadike

Adewole Adeyemi: Reviving African Identity Through Symbolism and Contemporary Painting

Discover the contemporary African paintings of Adewole Adeyemi, whose symbolic portraits explore African identity, cultural heritage, ancestry, resilience, and modern consciousness through expressive contemporary art.

African contemporary art continues to redefine how history is remembered, and few emerging artists pursue this dialogue with the clarity of Adewole Adeyemi. His series, The Rebirth of Roots, examines African identity through symbolism, traditional architecture, expressive portraiture, and cultural memory.

Adewole Adeyemi: Reviving African Identity Through Symbolism and Contemporary Painting by Miabo Enyadike

A graduate of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic and Yaba College of Technology, Adewole has exhibited in the TotalEnergies Art Exhibition, Life in My City Art Festival, The Lisbon Group International Art Collective, and Nu-African III on Artsy. His practice focuses on preserving and reinterpreting Africa's visual heritage for contemporary audiences.

Central to his work is the recurring image of the traditional African hut. Rather than presenting it as architecture alone, Adewole transforms it into a universal symbol of safety, belonging, ancestry, and collective memory. Throughout the series, the hut becomes part of the human figure, suggesting that heritage is not external but embedded within identity itself.

Paintings such as Sheltered explore the relationship between architecture and the human form, while Vision of Heritage positions cultural inheritance as the lens through which we understand the world. Whispers of the Ancestors expands this concept further by presenting multiple shelters as interconnected symbols of humanity's shared cultural consciousness.

His expressive use of colour, layered patterns, and symbolic forms bridges traditional African philosophies with contemporary artistic language. Rather than treating heritage as nostalgia, Adewole presents it as an active force that continues to influence modern identity.

The strength of Adewole Adeyemi's practice lies in its consistency. Every composition reinforces the same central idea: African identity is sustained through memory, culture, and the responsibility to preserve both for future generations.

As contemporary African art gains increasing international recognition, Adewole Adeyemi represents a generation of artists using symbolism not simply to reference history, but to ensure it remains relevant in today's world.

Modern Abstract Art Silhouettes to view   I enjoy painting abstract art silhouettes especially faces. The simple reason is I can manipulate the profile of an individual, with several layers of color. Color for me is an integral part of my art aesthetics I allow color to lead my creative process in the way I see the art I am about to create.            Silhouette of a woman; Abstract Art; by miabo enyadike. My Abstract Art this week is all about using colors to create a simple silhouette, of a woman and a man. When I decided to create this particular abstract painting, it was more of emphasis on color than on the human profile. I wanted to see what the outcome of the creative process would look like.  Also to see if and when the human features are covered in colors, other than our natural colors would this Art evoke any emotions?... that simply belies the fact, that color seems to be one the many problems we have in our so...

Contemporary Abstract Expressionism Art to View By Miabo Enyadike

Contemporary Abstract Expressionism Art - Colors and Lines                    Imagine life without color, I have tried too, but I have found it so impossible to envisage. The simple reason, is every where we turn there are colors, tones, hues and lines in such harmony. The inspiration behind these abstract faces series is harmonising colors and lines in an expressionist style.                                  This abstract collection is colors and lines, in which I decided to explore the use of  colors, creating tones and shades, using blurry and sharp lines created with ink to emphasis a synergy between  the two.                                                            ...

Expressionist Abstract Art of Women by Miabo Enyadike

Expressionist Abstract Art of Women  Drawing women and their expressions is something, I am truly interested in. Female profiles and faces in abstract is intriguing and Ink drawings, are a way for me to throw that notion out there, of a female portrait created differently.  This is something that is important to me as a woman artist, this matters.                                                                                                                  I draw faces in a way that is uncomplicated  and easy to read, in a rather caricature way though not comical, with ink, it is easy to let the colors flow so that they create for me, the facial contours and structure.  My emp...
