African heritage is often discussed through monuments, artefacts, and historical archives. Nigerian artist Theophilus Chinonso Agwunwa proposes a different perspective. His work argues that culture survives most powerfully through people particularly those whose everyday lives quietly preserve traditions, values, and identity.

Working with discarded Ankara fabrics, Agwunwa creates textured collage portraits that merge sustainability with contemporary African storytelling. His artistic practice centres on memory, resilience, and cultural continuity, demonstrating that heritage is something lived rather than simply inherited.

His featured series, Pillars of Strength, explores African women as the unseen foundations of families and communities. Rather than depicting strength as loud or dramatic, the works celebrate endurance, dignity, emotional resilience, and the transmission of culture across generations. The recurring gele becomes a powerful symbol of identity, honour, and continuity within Yoruba tradition.

Each artwork expands this narrative from a different perspective. Keeper of Memory presents women as custodians of tradition. Silent Strength acknowledges emotional labour that often goes unseen. Woman of Resilience celebrates unwavering perseverance, while Celebration and Identity explores how cultural expression itself preserves heritage. Finally, Threads of Comfort honours motherhood as one of Africa's most enduring foundations, where love becomes a living form of legacy.

Abstract Art Silhouettes My practice in Abstract Expressionism is rooted in color as a force of identity rather than decoration.  Through what I define as Abstract Silhouette Art, I strip the human figure of literal detail and reconstruct it through saturated, expressive color fields. I am particularly drawn to the tension between presence and absence.  Traditional silhouettes rely on darkness to define form, but my work deliberately disrupts this logic.  I replace shadow with luminosity, transforming what is typically obscure into something vivid, animated, and impossible to ignore.  In doing so, I challenge the viewer’s expectation of how the human form should be perceived and understood.
