Profile of Artist Olufunke Esekhalu Ojukwu

Artist Olufunke Esekhalu Ojukwu

Olufunke is an Artist with an obvious point of view on Recycling Objects into Art. Her use of plastic bottle caps and discarded product wraps are some of the reasons, she will be presenting her own perspective  on discarded objects into Art, in this year's Artmiabo International Art Festival and we are thrilled.

Profile:

Olufunke Esekhalu Ojukwu is an artist and a 2006  graduate of Yaba college of technology , Lagos, Nigeria. An origin of Uromi, Edo state was born in 1981 and raised in Lagos State, Nigeria.

She discovered her creative talents early in life, as a kid attending Baptist Primary School, Obanikoro, Lagos.

Despite the family discouragements from creating drawings and making art, she kept pushing on till she got the opportunity to be part of an art competition.

Encouraged by the art teacher, she went in for the competition sponsored by the Lions club while in secondary school (Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo) and won the  2nd position, 2000.

Winning the competition created an opportunity to apply into The Yaba Tech Art school in Lagos State, an experience that built and strengthened her creative Skills. She completed her HND with upper credits in Painting.

Olufunke went ahead for her National Youth Service Corp in jalingo, Taraba state and was a teacher at the college of education, Jalingo, Ardo kola local Government. A position that saw her teach Art to grown ups with little or no knowledge of Art and it was indeed a milestone.

This was very endearing for the students and it created a strong bond between Olufunke and the students in the community where she taught and that relationship has endured till this day.

Olufunke is inspired by everyday situations, emotions, sights and scenes, people, colors, shapes and forms of any kind that will give the nudge to create and make tangible and mostly beautiful thought provoking arts.

Expressionist Abstract Art of Women by Miabo Enyadike

Expressionist Abstract Art of Women  Drawing women and their expressions is something, I am truly interested in. Female profiles and faces in abstract is intriguing and Ink drawings, are a way for me to throw that notion out there, of a female portrait created differently.  This is something that is important to me as a woman artist, this matters.                                                                                                                  I draw faces in a way that is uncomplicated  and easy to read, in a rather caricature way though not comical, with ink, it is easy to let the colors flow so that they create for me, the facial contours and structure.  My emp...

Art Publication - Innovative Strategies for Selling Arts and Crafts- Artmiabo

Innovative Strategies for Selling Arts and Crafts                      SELL YOUR ART THROUGH BLOGGING ABOUT YOUR ARTWORKS.... MY ARTIST DEFINITION/EXPERIENCE An Artist is one that is creatively free-spirited meaning one that creates a world around themselves that conforms to the life they portray through their works. The life of the artist is simple yet complicated with ideas on how everything from food, clothing, lifestyle, music, how kids are raised, environment and social issues should be interpreted.  Most artists express these views through various forms of visual and fine art and it is left for interpretation by the viewer or people in general who view this art and are sometimes confused about the Artists true genuine intentions and reasoning.  Most artist if not all have experienced this confusion from the audience, gallery owners, collectors, sponsors, and family.  My experience with most galleries, I ...

Modern Abstract Art Silhouettes to view | Miabo Enyadike

Modern Abstract Art Silhouettes to view   I enjoy painting abstract art silhouettes especially faces. The simple reason is I can manipulate the profile of an individual, with several layers of color. Color for me is an integral part of my art aesthetics I allow color to lead my creative process in the way I see the art I am about to create.            Silhouette of a woman; Abstract Art; by miabo enyadike. My Abstract Art this week is all about using colors to create a simple silhouette, of a woman and a man. When I decided to create this particular abstract painting, it was more of emphasis on color than on the human profile. I wanted to see what the outcome of the creative process would look like.  Also to see if and when the human features are covered in colors, other than our natural colors would this Art evoke any emotions?... that simply belies the fact, that color seems to be one the many problems we have in our so...

Waste Recycled - A Sustainable Art Living by Miabo Enyadike

The Art of Sustainable Living Sustainable living, Found Objects, Recycling,  Up-cycle, Eco Art, call it whatever has been my life style as an artist for many years.  My attitude toward the discarded found object is reflected in my home.  I collect used bottles, books, distressed wood, pine cones, used jeans, used clothing, used plastics and so many more to create art and design for homes, collectors and my store.  My home forms an integral part of my art process, because I work and live in the same space as the Art I sell. My early inspiration came from Jasper Johns early works where he used mostly found objects to create art.                          Cross Made out of Wood, Egg Shells and Egg Crates Then I moved on to be inspired by street art here in Africa through my travels across the continent.  I discovered really moving and inspiring art, created with found objects that we take for granted ...
