Based in Lagos and Ogun State, Gabriel's work is a vibrant reflection of his passion for color, nature, and the rich cultural heritage of Africa.

Under the mentorship of the late Kola Anidugbe, he honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of various art forms.

His education continued at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile - Ife, where he earned a B.A. in Fine Arts (Painting) in 2017.

Artistic Style and Medium

Over the years, Gabriel has explored various mediums, ultimately finding his voice through the use of acrylic and ink.

His style is primarily expressionistic, characterized by bold, fearless use of contrasting and complementary colors.

His "tigerline" technique—a unique method that incorporates distinct lines and patterns—has become a signature element of his work.

                      Omoniyi Gabriel Gilbert:

Themes and Inspirations

Gabriel's work delves deep into the human spirit, often depicting semi-abstract portraits and figures of black subjects.

His art is not just a visual experience but a dialogue that explores themes of African bravery, strength, and social justice.

Through his black tigerline technique, Gabriel seeks to celebrate the uniqueness of each individual, much like the distinct stripes of a tiger, symbolizing strength, courage, and resilience.

Artist Statement:

"My art upholds the idea of my culture and environment, a reflection and extension of my personality and realities.

Through contemporary human portraits, I examine the human spirit and how humanity is revealed externally in powerful and captivating expressions.

My goal is to share in my paintings what I hope others feel in their lives: awe, wonder, joy, freedom, acceptance, and curiosity."

Using a sophisticated palette of harmonious and complementary hues, Gabriel's work highlights African bravery and elegance.

His art is a celebration of black Africans, their struggles, strength, and passion, placing blackness at the forefront to challenge and erase lazy narratives about the black race and social injustice.

As he continues to explore new frontiers in art, Gabriel remains a powerful voice in the celebration of African identity and expressionistic art.
