Artists belief in your art core | Artmiabo

Artists belief in your art core

I have always asked myself what exactly drives my passion to create Art and Craft?. what is this driving force that makes me want to turn the usual to unusual given the time and effort required to achieve it?.

For years I have always told myself and people that it is the passion that ignites my creativity but ain't we all passionate about something or someone? yes, we are sometimes briefly, other times forever.

I decided to look inwards and really deep inside my core and it hit me the simple truth I discovered is I love creating things with my hands regardless of its appeal.

I need to do something! and thank goodness it is creativity in the form of Art.

This deep sense of loyalty to my creative spirit is the driving force of my passion to create Art practically with anything I can lay my hands on.

Its been several long years away from the Art scene in my home country Nigeria in west Africa, holidaying there briefly I discovered not much has changed in terms of Art concept but a lot has changed in Pricing of Art.

People pay a premium for Art and there are more collectors out there willing to patronize and commission Artist, that in itself is fantastic.

My last exhibition in Lagos was held in 2006, at TERRAKULTURE, the Nigeria Art Institute and it was memorable and was documented by a good friend of mine.
I remember artists and guests alike wondering why there were few paintings and more decor objects.

All I wanted to achieve was simply how simple objects enhance our lives in an ethnic setting no pretense and the beauty it brings.

I worked with all sorts of materials for months unending to stress that point and at last, it was curated in a way I thought fit.
A living room and a dining area with my ethnic designs.

not questioning for once how people will react to this concept just did what I knew inside me, what I saw and believed in.

And I was nominated for a Ford Foundation award/grant which I was later given for contemporary Art in 2006, alongside my peers.
